ICDS in Sikkim was started in 1975 with only one Rural Project covering south and west districts. Total strength of the project was 150 centers. Presently, Sikkim has four Rural Projects – one each in all districts and one Urban Slum Project in Gangtok with a total strength of 500 ICDS centers.

UDISHA – World Bank assisted training program of ICDS

UDISHA – which means ‘the Dawn’/beginning of a new day – is a World Bank assisted program of ICDS. It recognizes ICDS as the vehicle for social change and training as a catalyst for generating skills in workers and awareness in the community.

All ICDS functionaries are provided with pre-service Job Training and thereafter Refresher Training after interval of, at least two years of continuous service in the field. Provision of development of training material is also provided in the project.

Regular Training of ICDS Functionaries

Anganwadi Training Center (AWTC): State has one AWTC, sanctioned and established during 1986. It organizes Job/Refresher Training Course for Anganwadi workers and Orientation/Refresher Training course for the Anganwadi Helpers throughout the year. One Training Centre suffices the training need of the State. AWTC follows the yearly Training Calendar, prepared as per the training need of the field. Supervisors and CDSOs attend Job/Refresher Training at National Institute of Public. Co-operation and Child Development (NIPCCD) Guwahati. Beside the regular training of all ICDS functionaries, UDISHA has provision for:

1.   Other Training Program which supports/strengthens the training inputs of grass root level workers
