Mrs. Ratna Maya Sunwar, Agnawadi Worker, upper Jitlang, ( Rangpo Zone II ) has been serving the community of Upper Jitlang since her appointment on 15th April 1981 under Singtam Rural Project (E). She is a trained AWW and has under gone trainings such as Job Training Refresher course and various other trainings like Nutrition, Mahila Swastha Samitee, Family Welfare, Reproductive and Child care, Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization, short course chemotherapy and Direct Observation Treatment ( DOTS) HIV/AIDS, Empowerment of women, formation of Women's Self help Group,  Registration of Birth & Deaths and early detection of childhood disabilities. It is because of her effort that the Departmental schemes such as Small Family Scheme, Balika Samridhi Yozana, Swayamsidha and Adolescent Girls Scheme are widely being published. She has successfully formed Women's Self Help Groups. Her advocacy on other Women issues like institutional breast feeding practices, permanent / temporary methods of family planning, right age marriage etc. have encouraged women and young couples to great extent. Therefore, Ministry of Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare, Govt. of India is pleased to confer this certificate of National Anganwadi Worker Award for exceptional achievement 2003 - 2004 and a cash award of Rs. 25,000/- Mrs, Ratna Maya Sunar for her invaluable services and contribution towards development of welfare of children, women and community as a whole in the State.

     

EKLAVYA MODEL TRIBAL RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL

There are two Tribal Model Residential School in Sikkim. One at Siyam , North Sikkim and another at Gyangyap, Tashiding, West Sikkim.
SIYAM MODEL RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL - NORTH SIKKIM
This tribal residential school is situated at Siyam , North Sikkim in an area of 9.29 hectres. The school is under completion and will have classes 6 - 12 and accommodate 420 students. It will be run by a registered society " Sikkim Tribal Welfare Residential and Ashram Educational Institute. The construction is estimated to be in 4.18 crores for which Govt. of India has already provided 2.50 crores. The remaining amount will be borne by the state government.

GYANGYAP, TASHIDING MODEL RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL - WEST SIKKIM
Tribal Residential School at Tashiding has been sanctioned by Govt. of India to construct a school/ hostel building. Govt. of India has sanctioned 2.50crores in the last financial year 2005 -06. Accordingly a society has been constituted to run the Tashiding Residential School in whose favour Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department, Govt. of Sikkim has transferred Rs. 1 crore to Society as 1st installment of Grants under 1st Proviso to Article 275(1) of the Constitution to Sikkim in the last financial year. From the State Government side, SJEWD transferred Rs. 25 lakhs to acquire necessary lands to construct school / hostel building The functioning of the School / Hostel building will commence very shortly.  At the moment the Society has hired a rented building and started running the tribal residential school w.e.f. 3rd April 2007.Though this is the second tribal school in the state area MLA, Honorable Speaker of Sikkim Legislative Assembly Shri D.N. Thakarpa inaugurated the school and the members of the Society, DC West, Joint Director ( HRDD - West ), Joint Director ( RMDD - west ), DCSO (West), R.O. ( West ). APO ( SJE&WD ), Gram Panchayats and local people of Gyangyap and Tashiding were also present. Around 48 children has been admitted in the Class 6. Those students were taken from the surrounding areas. At present one Principal and three teachers have been appointed to start with. The construction executing department is P.W.D.
 

ABOUT THE SOCIETY -
The society " Sikkim Tribal Residential & Ashram Educational Institute " has been constituted for functioning, maintenance and management of the residential school. The society is a voluntary organization, registered under 1549 Vol. No. 1 and set up for providing free and quality education to underprivileged tribal students of Sikkim.

TRANSFER OF ADMINISTRATIVE POWER OF JUVENILE JUSTICE TO WOMEN & CHILD DIV.

The administration of Juvenile Justice is transferred from Social Welfare Division to Women and Child Development Division w.e.f. 1st April 2007 as directed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. Juvenile Justice is in the charge of Joint Secretary. All the functions, functionaries and funds are also been placed under Women and Child Development Division.
 

 

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING COURSE ON MOTOR DRIVING & MOTOR MECHANIC TRADE

The Social Justice Empowerment & Welfare Department ( Welfare Division ) is conducting professional training course on 5 months Motor Driving Trade and 9 months Motor Mechanic trade (light and heavy vehicles) to school drop out, unemployed Scheduled Castes youth of the State. The training programme is being implemented by Sikkim Motor Training & Engineering Institute located at Naya Bazar, West Sikkim. Altogether 60 genuine and deserving scheduled castes candidates has been selected from four districts of the state. The admissions training and training fee, expenditure on food and lodging will be borne by the department. The such type of the scheme is the first of its kind in the state inaugurated by the chief guest Shri G. Goparma, Commissioner cum Secretary of SJEWD on 16th April 2007. Shri N. Darnal ( Jt. Director - SJEWD ) , M.D. ( SMETI ) Sr. R.T.O. and 2nd Officer in charge of Naya Bazar, Police Station were also present during the inaugural function.
